Madonna matched Elvis Presley's U.K. record for a solo act as her "Celebration" retrospective (Warner Bros.) debuted at No. 1. Taio Cruz started a second week atop thesingles chart with "Break Your Heart" (Universal Island).

Madonna and Presley, with 11 No. 1s each in the U.K., are now joint second only to the Beatles, who have 15 to their name. According to U.K. Chart Company data, Madonna has also spent more weeks at No. 1 in the market, 29, than any other female solo artist.

"Celebration" pushed label mate Muse's No. 1 of last week, "The Resistance" (Helium 3/Warner Bros.), down into runner-up spot, while Dizzee Rascal's "Tongue N' Cheek" (Dirtee Stank) debuted at No. 3. The U.K. rapper also had a new entry on the chart last night (Sunday) at No. 11 on the singles chart with "Dirtee Cash."

Mika's sophomore album for Casablanca/Universal Island, "The Boy Who Knew Too Much," opened at No. 4, with chart veterans Cliff Richard and the Shadows' "Reunited" (EMI) new at No. 6. Pearl Jam's "Backspacer" (Monkey Wrench/Universal) started at No. 9, becoming the band's seventh U.K. top ten album.

"Total Madness" (Union Square), a new compilation by long-serving "Nutty Boys" of British pop, Madness, came in at No. 11, followed at No. 17 by Sheffield songwriter Richard Hawley's "Truelove's Gutter" (Mute) and Michael Bolton's new album "One World One Love" (Universal Music Record Label) at No. 19.

Taio Cruz remained at No. 1 on the singles survey as the former chart-topper "Sexy Chick" (Positiva/Virgin/EMI) by David Guetta featuring Akon held at No. 2. "Empire State of Mind" (Roc Nation/Warner Music) by Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys raced 15-3, one of Jay-Z's three titles in the top 40.

Shakira's "She Wolf" (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment) rose 5-4 and Temper Trap's "Sweet Disposition" (Infectious Music) 16-12. Kings of Leon's apparently inexhaustible smash hits "Sex On Fire" and "Use Somebody" rose yet again, 18-16 and 47-25 respectively.

The Muse album went straight to No. 1 on Billboard's European Top 100 Albums, while "Sexy Chick" withstood the challenge of Madonna's "Celebration" for a third week atop European Hot 100 Singles.
